Indie Designz has extensive experience formatting the interior of both ebooks and print books to specifications required by both print-on-demand and electronic publishing sites. We are well-versed in a multitude of formats, including those necessary for ebook at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Smashwords, and for print at Createspace, Lulu, and PDF/X1a:2001 for Lightning Source.

We use advanced formatting techniques so your book’s presentation will reflect both your style as the author as well as complement the subject or genre of the book. Formatting rates are based upon word count, chapter count, and complexity of format (ie straight text fiction vs non fiction). All rates below are based upon straight text fiction. If your books contains images, illustrations, charts, graphs, tables, bullet/numbered lists, or foot/end notes, then you’ll have to email me for a custom quote.

FAQ’s and Formatting Policies:

Fonts that I currently have a license to use are included in the quote. However if you require a specific font for your project only, then you will be required to purchase the font (if I don’t already have it) and send it to me or you may choose from a similar font in my portfolio. I have more than 10,000 fonts for you to choose from; so most likely there will be something which is similar. However if you still prefer to use that particular font for your project, you will be required to purchase it and send it to me for use.

Payment is accepted via paypal only. There are no exceptions to this. Paypal does have an option for you to pay using your credit or debit card if you don’t have a paypal account, but other than the options offered on Paypal, I do not accept any other forms of payment.

Scheduling Deposit is required to book a date. The deposit is 50% of the total format cost and is non refundable. It does go towards your final balance so it’s not additional. When you request a date, I’ll send you an invoice via paypal. I hold dates for 48 hrs. If the deposit isn’t paid within 48 hrs, then I release the dates for scheduling. Scheduling is done on a first come basis.

When to Send Your Doc: I prefer to have the manuscript 48 hrs in advance of your scheduled date, and it can be in either Word format or RTF. If you do not have either of these, please let me know upfront. If you’re going to be late for any reason, please email 48 hrs  before to let me know so we can work out an arrangement. If I do not receive your doc within 24 hrs of the date you’re scheduled on, then you will have to reschedule at my next available opening. I normally have clients scheduled back to back so when I receive a doc late it causes me to either have to do a rush job or delay those who are scheduled after you. Since rush jobs do not allow me to deliver the high quality service I prefer to offer my clients and I do not feel it fair to penalize others I will have to reschedule you for the next available opening instead. I do understand sometimes things happen and I’m more than willing to work with you on rescheduling as long as you communicate with me in a timely manner.

Turnaround times vary depending upon word count and complexity of formatting. Samples are delivered within 24 hrs. Interior formatting is completed within 7-10 business days after sample has been approved. If a longer timeframe is required due to the length or format complexity, I’ll inform you when I send the first chapter sample. Any formatting changes requested after the formatting is completed, and after the sample is approved, will be additional fees. Please note I schedule formatting clients on a first come basis. Therefore at times my next available opening could be weeks/months away. In order to ensure there is an opening at the time you require formatting and/or to meet your publishing deadline, please contact me as early as possible to book a date.

Edits and Changes: I do not provide editing or proofreading so please be sure to have your manuscript edited and proofread prior to sending it for formatting. Formatting is the final step in the process. All final edits should be done before sending to me. If you find spelling/grammar errors and need a new file or you make changes to your manuscript after I have formatted it, the rate is $50 per hour for reformatting and resaving. If you require a minimum page count, then you must inform me prior to my sending the sample for approval. If you inform me afterwards that you require a minimum page count or that you want chapters to fall on the right, then the full formatting rate for your word count (in addition to the previous fee) will apply to reformat the document to meet your minimum page count and/or chapter placement. Chapter headings and sub headings must be clearly marked so I’m able to find them. If you mark subheadings, line breaks, POV/scene changes in multiple ways, you must inform me prior to formatting so that I’m able to format your file properly. Everyone does things differently. It’s not possible for me to know unless you inform me of how you’ve marked your sections; especially if you’ve used multiple ways to mark different sections. If you fail to inform me prior to formatting, then an additional fee will be required in order for me to reformat the file. If you have POV/scene changes that require a manual line break, then you must put asterisks (**) in those spots. I will remove the asterisks and put glyphs (or can leave blank if you prefer) but any manual line break with no asterisk will be removed entirely and no glyph put in its place.

Proofing Final Docs: You have five days after the formatted final PDF has been delivered to proof the document and notify me of any errors. All formatting errors on my part will be corrected free of charge. If there are editorial errors, spelling/grammar etc, then see above edits and changes sections for rates. If you do not notify me within the five day period, then any changes will have to be scheduled at my next available opening. It is your responsibility to proof all final docs. I always do my best to catch any errors or mistakes, but I am human and can overlook something so please proof the doc once you receive it.
